Warm Panties
And other absurdities
I asked, “Has anyone seen my green sports bra?” He said, “Oh yeah… I moved that to the … garbage.”
I started crying immediately. He started laughing too. He stared at me as I doubled over in the kitchen near the dryer, “You’re LOSING it!” he laughed. I couldn’t stop. He meant the laundry; he had moved it to the laundry. The thought of him gently moving my sports bra to the garbage for no reason had me bursting into laughter then and in fits for the rest of the day.
“Move any more of my stuff to the garbage last night?” I asked upon making my way to the kitchen this morning.
The week started in chaos and continued that way, but our demeanors changed, and we started to see the levity in it all. The harshness wasn’t working, and it’s as though the Universe stepped in with a bucket full of silliness to remind us to play.
Tonight, as we headed toward our park walk, I said, “It’s kind of chilly, I'd better get some warm panties.” Wow, we both laughed as I imagined panties made of wool. Warm pants. I needed warm pants…
Two days ago was Talk Like Shakespeare day, and I’m finally getting around to writing a sonnet. This one’s about tonight.
April Sonnet
Ten syllables per line is not that hard
We dressed in silly clothes and walked the dog
Broken arm and wrist, imperfect and marred
We turned toward the sun, out from under fog
With one hand, he held his toothbrush aloft
She squeezed with all her might, the paste stayed stuck
I rushed and washed and reached for something soft
Wet and gooey, my fast arm met paste, yuck!
What the?! They exclaimed and laughed at the sight
Oh my god, I laughed as I showed it off
Tiny moments where everything feels right
Bellies full of laughs, one more swig, a quaff
And sometimes I can’t hear the words you say
Those eyes, soft skin, freckles are in the way
Loves,
Amy
